September 27 & 28
There is family fun for everyone as the Cooperstown Lions Club hosts its fifth Annual Duck Derby Race.  The action is Saturday & Sunday,  September 27 & 28, 10 am – 4 pm at the Fly Creek Cider Mill.  There is no admission fee. The event centers around multiple rubber duck races down Fly Creek in front of the Mill culminating in a final race with the winner taking home a $100 cash purse. “The unique attraction of the Lions  races is that you can watch the ducks from start to finish right in front of the Mill and enter multiple races,” says Rick Hulse, Chair of  event.  Racing ducks are one dollar each per race and races begin at the top of each hour starting at 11:00 am Saturday and ending at 3:00 pm Sunday with the final grand-prize race. Additional family-friendly activities planned are a gift basket raffles, an inflatable bounce house for children and refreshments. Ducks may be purchased at the event before each race.
All event proceeds are reinvested back to the community to benefit a variety of community betterment projects. While the Lions Club’s main initiative is eyesight conservation, they have a demonstrated history of successful  community betterment projects.  The club will be accepting donations of used eyeglasses that are then recycled for distribution in less developed countries.
The Fly Creek Cider Mill will be pressing sweet cider both Saturday and Sunday and visitors can witness the entire process in the Mill’s Cider Gallery. The Mill is located 3 miles north of Cooperstown and 24 miles south of Herkimer just off State Route 28.  For more information about the Fly Creek Cider Mill visit The Millis open every day 9 am until 6 pm with plenty of free parking.
The mission of Lions Clubs International is To create and foster a spirit of understanding among all people for humanitarian needs by providing voluntary services through community involvement and international cooperation. For more information about Lions Clubs visit
